1. Lands End Trail, San Francisco
Lands End Trail is one of the most stunning Bay Area Hikes with views of the Golden Gate Bridge from various angles, the coastline and beaches. If you are new to the city, the visitor center is a great place to stop to learn more about the place.
Sutro Baths is another great attraction that you should see before heading to Lands End. The Lands End hike is known for its sunset views. To the right of Sutro Baths is Point Lobos which takes the same name as the Point Lobos in Big Sur. Yes, there are two places named Point Lobos! From here you can see heart rock and the beautiful coastline with views of the Golden Gate Bridge.

2. Muir Main Trail, Mill Valley

The Muir Main Trail is a serene and accessible walk nestled within the heart of Muir Woods National Monument in Mill Valley, California. This is one of the most scenic Bay Area Hikes with ancient coastal redwoods, some of the tallest and oldest trees in the world.
Starting at the Muir Woods Visitor Center, the Muir Main Trail leads you on a loop through some of the park’s most scenic and significant areas. As you step onto the path, you are immediately enveloped by the tranquil atmosphere of the forest, with towering redwoods creating a natural cathedral overhead. The trail is well-maintained and mostly flat, making it suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
Some notable stops along this trail are The Pinchot Tree, Cathedral Grove and Fern Creek Trail. All of them provide great photo opportunities as well. This place is popular so it can get crowded over the weekends. Pets are not allowed on this trail.

3. Quail and Bayview Loop, Fremont
This trail is a little East Bay secret. It often does not make it to several other Bay Area Hikes lists on the internet but it made it to my list after I spent an evening hiking here during the last month of my pregnancy. I remember how stunning the views were, the peace that I felt here and the wind on my face.
This hike takes you to beautiful views of the Bay as well as the multicolored salt ponds. You can see a lot of seagulls and some bald eagles as well if you get lucky.

One thing I vividly remember is how windy this trail was. So bring a jacket with you in case it gets cold. During our visit, we took a detour to see poppies on the Redhill trail. This hike is perfect for a sunrise or sunset. It can get hot during the day since most of it is exposed. This trail is mostly flat and well paved as well. Dogs are welcome on a leash here. There is a $5 vehicle entry fee.

4. Mori Point Loop Trail, Pacifica
This is one of the most scenic trails in this list of stunning Bay Area hikes. The vast 100 acres of Mori Point is a relatively new addition to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The easy trail offers beautiful views of Point Reyes to Pedro Point.
During the spring, Mori Point truly comes to life, as the hillsides are blanketed in a kaleidoscope of wildflowers. These blooms, ranging from the vibrant orange of California poppies to the delicate purple of Douglas iris, create a stunning and diverse tapestry of color that draws wildflower enthusiasts from near and far. The trail’s gentle terrain and abundant natural beauty make it a favorite destination for both casual hikers and those looking to immerse themselves in the local flora.

Mori Point also has a fascinating history that adds to its allure. Just north of Mori Point lies the Sharp Park Golf Course, a site with a unique past. During World War II, this area was used by the U.S. government as an internment camp, a somber reminder of the country’s history. Despite its past, Mori Point has become a symbol of preservation and community spirit.
Mori Point can be seen from any high point in Pacifica since it protrudes several hundred feet into the Pacific Ocean. Thanks to many community volunteers who have helped in preserving this as a park for all of us to enjoy.

5. Castle Rock Nature Trail, Los Gatos
Castle Rock State Park is South Bay Area’s hidden gem hiking paradise tucked into the Santa Cruz Mountains. Due to the large boulders, this park is popular among rock climbers but its hiking trails are lush and very beautiful. The sandstone formations covered in thick green moss feel like an incredible escape from the city while still being only a few minutes away. For all of these reasons, this is a great addition to our list of Bay Area Hikes.

The hikes wind through forests of oak, madrone and towering Douglas Firs. This is an easy and short hike although there are several other trails in Castle Rock State Park for those looking for more of a challenge. The waterfall in the park isn’t much but only a trickle, however, this trail is so perfect for the summer. Come earlier in the day for a magical foggy experience.
There is a $10 fee to enter the park and dogs are not allowed here. If you do want to explore a dog-friendly option, check out Sanborn County park which is nearby.
